Winter pictures are typically quite white, which doesn’t lead towards eye-catching colors and scrapbook pages.. however, with a little imagination and some extra supplies, you can quickly turn dull, boring white into entertaining pages!

Depending on the person and the location, the winter season is a much slower season.  You tend to stay in more because of the cold and the daylight hours are much shorter.  This gives you a great opportunity to catch up on your scrapbooking!  All year long I take pictures and collect great little items for my scrapbooks however I can never find the time to put them together.  Winter time offers you scrapbooking opportunities I otherwise wouldn’t have.

The winter season also offers some other opportunities.  In my area there seems to be more sales at my local craft stores, which is great for stocking up on supplies for the rest of the year.  There’s also a great opportunity for taking fun pictures with the kids in the snow.  Snow angels (taken from the upstairs window so I could get a great shot), various snowmen, and tons of snowball fights make for some pretty amazing scrapbook layout ideas.

Speaking of snowmen, here’s an idea for you.  I saw this a number of years ago and my family started doing this as well.  For fun, the family puts their busy school and work schedules aside and spends a little time in the backyard putting together a series of snowmen.  There are five of us which means there are five snowmen we need to make.  The first few years the kids made snowmen that resembled themselves (as much as three large snowballs stacked on top of each other can) however the kids have started to explore their creative sides.  Now the snowmen don’t necessarily represent what they look like but how they see themselves.  It’s amazing to see what they come up with.

Recently a quick trip down to the local craft store sent me into ecstatic bliss!  I didn’t even know it was going to happen however when I approached the front doors I saw the magical words… CLEARANCE SALE!

The only problem with the clearance sale.. it was Sunday and the sale started Friday night.

Just about everything a scrapbooker could dream of was on sale.  Scissors, paper, various stickers… everything 50% or more off!  There were even totes and other storage containers at amazing prices.  When I say “were” I really mean “were.”  Sadly, all these great deals were already gone.  I’m not saying I didn’t get a bunch of stuff.. there were still some fantastic items left however all the other items I would have purchased were already gone.

The moral of the story is this:  If your local craft store offers email newsletters (or any newsletters at all), sign-up for them.  I declined doing so because I thought the last thing I wanted was another email clogging up my Inbox.  Well, I was wrong. (but don’t tell my husband, haha)

2. Got confetti?  Try gluing some of those to the pages.  This is especially nice if you have colorful confetti.
3. Some parties have the little hats you can wear, try flattening one of those and gluing it to the corner of your page.
4. Don’t forget to put the year somewhere.  Cutting out the numbers on colorful construction paper can be very eye-catching.
5. If you’re especially talented with digital photo editing, consider putting Dick Clark in a few of your pictures.  It’s sure to bring a few smiles.
